Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
TheTrafficApp ("we," "us") helps drivers look up and monitor publicly available traffic and parking violation records associated with a license plate. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure one-way hash — we never store your password in readable form).
- Vehicle information: license plate numbers and states you choose to save, plus any optional nickname.
- Optional profile details: a phone number and driver's license number — only if you choose to add them. These are optional (the lookup works without them), and any driver's license number you provide is encrypted at rest.
- Lookup activity: the violation records returned by official government systems when you run a lookup.
- Billing information: if you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We store a Stripe customer identifier and your subscription status — we never see or store your full card number.
We practice data minimization: we ask only for what a violation lookup and monitoring service reasonably needs, and optional fields stay optional.
How we use your information
- To provide violation lookups and, for subscribers, to monitor your saved plates and alert you to new violations.
- To operate your account, process subscriptions, and provide support.
- To improve reliability and security of the service.
Your authorization to look up violations
When you save a plate, you authorize us to check that plate for violations on your behalf, and you confirm you are the vehicle's owner or are otherwise authorized to check it. You may only look up plates you own or are authorized to check. You can withdraw this authorization at any time by removing the plate or deleting your account, which stops any further monitoring of it.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Government violation systems — to perform a lookup, we submit the plate you provide to the relevant official portal.
- Stripe — to process subscription payments securely.
- Legal requirements — if required by law or valid legal process.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and vehicle data until you delete it or close your account. You may remove saved vehicles at any time from your dashboard, and you may request full account deletion by emailing us. On deletion we remove your personal data except where we must retain records for legal or accounting reasons.
Security
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, connections use HTTPS, and access to production systems is restricted. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information.
Your choices
- Access or update your profile and vehicles from your account dashboard.
- Cancel a subscription at any time through the billing portal.
- Request access to or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Relationship to government agencies
TheTrafficApp is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency. Official government systems remain the authoritative source for your violations and payments.
Email preferences
We send account and alert emails related to the service you signed up for (for example, a new-violation alert on a plate you're monitoring). Non-essential emails include an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time — we honor opt-out requests promptly.
